About Us

Hi there! We’re so glad you found us. My name is Ashley, the face behind The Dog Doula. I have long been passionate about animals, but dogs have always had my heart. We have four of our own! For the past six years we have been heavily involved in dog rescue, fostering over 60 dogs in our home and finding them new forever families. Fostering dogs has been so rewarding and educational.

Almost two years ago my husband and I welcomed our first child home. Like many soon-to-be parents with pets, we spent a lot of time wondering how our crew would handle a new addition to the family. Our years of education and experience with animals truly helped us come up with a solid plan to make the transition as smooth as possible.

A common theme I came across working in rescue was the large number of families, more specifically new mothers who had just given birth, who truly had a hard time with the transition of welcoming home a new baby and managing their pets. This realization became even more clear when I watched one of my best friends, who had just become a new mom, struggle through her postpartum journey.

A significant factor in that struggle was the family dog.

Let’s be real - the postpartum period is NO JOKE. I myself struggled with terrible postpartum anxiety. The last thing a new mother/new parent needs is to feel guilt or shame for needing some help. That’s where I come in.

Our goal is to educate expecting families on how to prepare their dogs and their home for a new addition, provide behavioral consultations and community resources if additional training assistance is needed prior to/after baby arriving, and to provide postpartum support for you and your dog(s) through a variety of services.
